just a fantastic and i just don’t even and so 幸せ
- Yさん says morning strawberries taste different because they’re warmed by the morning sunlight, picked one in his greenhouse, and the difference is WILD! totally dif from the american ones we get in HK that are super big but have not much taste
- had a really meaningful conversation with Yさん somehow during break all in japanese about life purpose and his background and sad story and took me the rest of the afternoon and then some journaling to slowly process thoughts, was glad i had just enough japanese to have this conversation with him
- nap 🙂 then bit of errands
- Yさん brought me to the public baths!! didn’t even know there were some just nearby… so nice to have warm bath and indoor shower… what a treat
- turns out the ‘dinner gathering’ to celebrate one of Kさん’s business ventures is a WHOLE KAISEKI DINNER AND I GOT TREATED AND I DON’T KNOW WHY THEY SO NICE I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND BIG CRY (also lots of good conversation with the young couple, Hさん (met before) and his wife (first time meeting) whose name i didn’t catch, and his youtubing and she also loves food and they were both so interested in hk food and she was so eager to repeat cantonese food names after me and it was real nice:)

breakfast toast, milk tea, scrambled eggs
last lettuce from earlier picking from greenhouse with olive oil
simmered shiitake in shoyu and mirin + leek + eggs
beautiful river right next to his greenhouses, there was piled up sand on the hill going down towards it; from the typhoon, said Yさん
water was so clear
strawberry and other veg greenhouse! Yさん out here like: ‘now when i go to tokyo i can barely eat the veg there it just isn’t delicious’, tbh for me the veg dif doesn’t hit that hard but that strawberry dif hit me REAL hard

tempura fish ball stick thing + add on onsen egg + udon lunch!! local udon says Yさん, that’s why takes time. it was so delicious and soup so good 🙂 light but flavorful.
looks like california lol, just like hamamatsu reminded me of cali, didn’t realize this was so close to us
me telling Yさん after the baths (in japanese): ‘when i was in the baths, i was so thankful’, him: why? me: ‘i was just thinking, why is Yさん such a nice person, to bring me to the baths, i haven’t even done that much for him, i’m SO happy right now’ lol
ok when there’s a menu like this you know
started off with fish + veg rice + sesame oil smell in it
then this pickled daikon thing with bonito flakes, which was called ‘daikon steak’ but i’m not huge on つけもの so i just tried
really light chicken really good
but this was the winner of the first three dishes, soy sauce super flavorful (can’t name the spices) chicken, felt v chinese, just real sweet, therefore japanese
they had a sake winner, which i did not try, but found the label interesting, lit called ‘trophy’
two squishy blobs, then big fishball with shiitake? mushroom inside with v thin veg slice on top, in light dashi broth
sweet goopy (how do they make it goopy?? corn starch + dashi?) pumpkin with minced meat which i think was pork
didn’t realize sushi/sashimi was coming and was getting pretty full by now, but beef nigiri i was just yum, not too fatty, lean with a bit of fat, v yum, dip in salt or shoyu, choice 🙂
sashimi, Hさん, his wife A?さん, and Yさん (who asked the chef) all worked together to help me figure out the fish lol: salmon, taiyo, kampachi, the the fish that starts with H that I had with garlic the other day that is local style and grilled on surface and so good
dessert: thin mochi layer on v sweet chestnut insides
got to take home some leftover rice!!!!
bless, so thankful and grateful and thank you
