- got up at 6:30am with sunrise (idk why waking up earlier), probs good for going to the fruit farm later, errands all morning
- afternoon trip to yamadera! so beautiful, so humbling, so incredible thinking of how awe-inspiring the space must’ve been like centuries ago before the large steps were built and the pathways widened for tourists… (not that it isn’t awe-inspiring already, but it must’ve been that much more!)
early lunch: last night’s leftovers~

wind blowing, peaceful
so lucky to see with autumn colors!
reminds me of somewhere in henan…!

love konyakku. also didn’t realize the local ones are served with mustard! real interesting. real yum, great finish to yamadera trip, eating konyakku, watching the river flow standing on the orange bridge.
after the day trip, ended up having a conversation with M. (I think) and realized that something that interests me about these temple and shrine spaces is that it works with the natural landscape to create a humbling feeling in the visitor. whereas in churches (at least the large ones i’m thinking of), the effect is created with the large spaces, towering arches, and massive windows, with these spaces i’m visiting recently, the human-made aspect (ie. gateways, stone markers, etc) in temple/shrine grounds accentuates the largeness of the natural space that it is situated in. especially with mountains, just keep going up, and keeps going up, and you start feeling the stairs in your breathing, and it just keeps going…two different ways of creating this humbling experience, of feeling small, feeling that wow, i am just one person in a very very big world…!
caffeinated myself a bit when i got back to make dinner– ginger milk tea with honey, if you haven’t, ぜひ try it out
dinner:
the garlic butter mushrooms i have been wanting to make for days they were so oily and so good, as i told M., ‘livin’ it up’
napa ginger salt because veg
potato egg miso pancakes yum tums because yum carbs :’)
